Permeameter

This oil-confining pressure medium apparatus is used for measuring fluid permeability via the transient step technique. In this technique a sample is placed between two reservoirs. A pressure differential is established in the reservoirs and the permeability of the sample is inferred from the time it takes the two reservoirs to equilibrate. The rig is equipped with a furnace that can heat the assembly up to 150 °C. In addition the sample assembly is fitted with transducers to measure the ultrasonic velocity in the sample, at different conditions (temperature, confining pressure and pore pressure). The sample assembly can be connected to Teledyne Isco pumps for the possibility to inject gases in different states (i.e., gaseous or supercritical), for example in applications/research relating to carbon sequestration.
